Tumultuous news in the world of the Pixies, one of the greatest indie rock bands of the 1980s (and known to the great mainstream as “the band with that one song at the end of Fight Club), as they recently lost original bassist and occasional vocalist Kim Deal. And after that fan-shattering bit of news, news and rumors are flying of a replacement bassist, a new tour, new songs, and—possibly—new songs.
The AV Club reports that the Pixies have announced today that they have already replaced the seemingly irreplaceable Kim Deal—with another Kim. Kim Shattuck, lead singer and guitarist of The Muffs as well as a member of The Pandoras, will step into Deal’s shoes, so that the band can launch a slew of new European tour dates. And what can you expect to hear on those dates? “The first collection of new material since 1991’s Trompe le Monde,” which many are seeing as an indicator of a new album. Check out the full list of dates below, via the AV Club, and commence hoping that the new tunes aren’t terrible.
