It’s somehow all rather fitting that Andy Kaufman—prankster, cult figure, and performance artist—would release his first comedy album a whopping 19 years after his cancer-related death in 1984. After all, the anti-comedian often toyed prankishly with his public image, and often spoke of faking his own death, so it makes an oddball kind of sense that he would only now, nearly two decades after his death, finally get his own comedy album.
According to The AV Club, the album, titled Andy And His Grandmother, was taken from “82 hours of micro-cassette tapes” that Kaufman recorded from 1977 to 1979. The album will see the light of day on July 16 via Drag City. The album was compiled by Rodney Ascher and Vernon Chatman, is narrated by Bill Hader, and Kaufman acolyte Bob Zmuda wrote the liner notes. You can dig the full tracklist below.
