A few weeks ago, we reported to you that not only had Scott Weiland been dumped by his Stone Temple Pilots band-mates, insult was added to injury when he was replaced by, of all people, Chester Bennington of Linkin Park. While STP unfairly remains the brunt of many snide music-hipster jokes—hey, they were a pretty good singles act in the ‘90s—Linkin Park is just… well, it’s Linkin Park. So, what does Weiland think of the replacement?
Shockingly, the occasionally unreliable singer is fairly centered about it, according to Rolling Stone. Weiland recently had this to say:
“I don’t think Chester did it in a spiteful way…the brothers DeLeo can be pretty persuasive… I guess nothing is totally shocking.”
Weiland had previously struck up a friendship with Bennington on the 2001 Family Values tour. But, as for Weiland’s feelings about the upcoming “new STP” tour, he was less than understanding:
“I don’t think it was smart for them to do that…I’m surprised they did what they did without checking the legality of it, how they just decided to go and use the [STP] name and go and hire another singer and start playing shows with a name that I still am an owner of.”
I suppose we’ll find out how legal it is when the new incarnation of STP hits the road with Filter later this month. Check out the dates below:
