Over the holiday weekend, Paul Walker, an actor best known as the star of the Fast and Furious franchise, died in a car accident on his way home from a charity event. His passing was made all the more tragic by the grim irony that his death took place in a car, given the fact that death-defying car stunts were the specialty of his most popular franchise. Since the news of his death broke, those who knew Walker have taken to various forms of social media to release statements of sorry and condolences. Wu-Tang Clan rapper/producer RZA, however, went a step further.
RZA has posted a track on SoundCloud entitled “Destiny Bends,” a tribute to his friendship with Walker and a memorial for the actor.
RZA detailed the song thusly:
“This song, entitled ‘Destiny Bends,’ was written last night after hearing the tragic news of the loss of a good man named Paul Walker. I met Paul on the set of the film ‘Brick Mansion,’ where we talked, laughed, and exchanged ideas of life and fatherhood…I only knew him personally for less than a year, but we knew each other through our work and art. I dedicated my time to compose this song with my two sons and new friend Will Wells, who was kind enough to sing and perform it for me. We dedicate it to Paul Walker. A good man. We had plans to continue working with each other in the future. It seemed destined, but ‘destiny bends.’”
Details concerning the specifics of Walker’s death are still forthcoming, but we do know that he was the passenger in a Porche Carrera GT that somehow struck a light pole and tree in Santa Clarita, California following a Typhoon Haiyan charity event.
